. . “We are exactly where we choose

. .

“We are exactly where we choose to be.”

Now, this is where I put the question to you, the reader: Isn’t that true for all of us? Isn’t that true for all those around us?

I’m sure you know people (or perhaps even yourself at times) who blame the world for their setbacks and failures, then simply! credit “luck” for those who succeed around them. Yet, when we really examine our own lives, we see that we are exactly where we choose to be at any given moment.

>We are a product of our own environment because we are the ones creating the environment we are in.

Have you ever noticed people taking negative actions like hanging out at the local dive bar every day after work, spending all their money on liquor and fun, and then complaining that they’re broke and can never catch a “break”? Have you ever noticed people who confide to their family and friends that they can’t find love, yet they never leave the house or put themselves in situations (or on TV) to meet new people? But haven’t you also noticed people who surround themselves with positive influences, work hard, are accountable, plan for the future, and “create” their own breaks?

In my new friend’s case, he was and is simply seeking love.

Dear Abby:

0 Comments | Charleston Daily Mail, Jul 29, 2010 | by Jeanne Phillips

DEAR ABBY: “Lost My Appetite in South Carolina” (June 1) walked out of a wedding reception after waiting for a delayed dinner and suffering through the DJ’s “loud, deafening rock ‘n’ roll music.” You chided the writer and suggested he should have asked the hosts to lower the volume somewhat. It’s my experience this doesn’t work. Insanely loud music is part of the contemporary American culture.

I have walked out of at least two wedding receptions because of loud music. A wedding reception is supposed to be an event to enjoy and talk to people. Something is amiss when people are invited to a wedding and become a captive audience, forced to put up with intolerable conditions. Walking out is a reasonable response.

Paul

Chesterfield, Mo.

DEAR PAUL: It was impossible to turn a deaf ear to the “volume” of letters I received supporting “Lost” for the reasons you expressed. Read on:

DEAR ABBY: Spoiled brides and loopy parents treat weddings like Broadway productions. The guests are just extras in the extravaganza. If people have been invited for dinner and it isn’t being served, they are justified in leaving.

I went to a wedding and was shocked to learn dinner wouldn’t be served until five hours after the reception began because “the bride preferred to dance on an empty stomach.” My husband and I left our gift and took our empty stomachs to a restaurant. We heard later that the mother of the bride was angry because more than a dozen guests also left before dinner, while the bride danced merrily on.

J.G.

Los Angeles

DEAR ABBY: You missed an opportunity to point out to your readers that special dinners are a time for family, friends and new acquaintances to renew, rekindle and update their lives and relationships. It might be wise for future wedding planners to instruct the DJ or band to play soft music – or none at all – during dinnertime. Remember, the “bash” goes on after dinner and lasts for hours.

Cathy Lee

Grosse Point Farms, Mich.

DEAR ABBY: That letter made me furious! Because of the 30 extra guests we expected, we rented a larger room, hired an extra waiter and bartender and set up additional tables. Because some guests didn’t show up and others left before the meal, we had couples left sitting alone at their tables.

The money we could have saved if some of those ungrateful people had simply declined in the RSVP could have gone to the newlyweds to start their household. Whatever happened to courtesy and good manners?

DEAR ABBY: The comfort of one’s guests must be considered in planning an event

Room for error in Scots hotel bookings

0 Comments | Herald, The; Glasgow (UK), Jan 25, 2010

SCOTS have been accused of not knowing how to spell some of UK’s best-known towns and cities when they book accommodation.

Almost one-third of people spelled Morecambe in the north-west of England Morcambe, 20% thought Torquay was Tourkey, and Scarbrough replaced the correct spelling of Scarborough, according to Travelodge

The budget hotel chain estimates that about 20% of its daily bookings are for locations that are misspelt.

Other mistakes include one in 10 Scots spelling Blackpool as Blackpole and Newquay as Newkey or New Quay. Some 15% thought the historic university city of Cambridge was spelt Camebridge.

The same number of adults also incorrectly spelled the city famous for being the home to Robin Hood and Sherwood Forest – Nottingham as Nothingham.

Almost half of Scottish respondents got Stansted wrong, spelling the airport Stanstead, and one in 10 could not spell Heathrow and Gatwick.

Dr John Gledhill from The Spelling Society said: “Britons consistently underperform in spelling tests regarding everyday words, which include popular British locations.

“Correctly spelling a location can be more difficult because a place name may be a preservation of an old spelling that has little bearing on life today.

“The spellings could represent a pronunciation from any century from 1066 onwards that just happens to have stuck

As the winter is approaching,

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

As the winter is approaching, natural hair care needs to be adjusted to keep it from damage, which is caused by the elements of the weather.

Winter can ruin your personal appearance when it comes to choosing an incredible and stylish hairdo and dry flaking scales of skin start “snowing” of your head as a result of dandruff, causing persistent scaling or itching of the scalp. Apply dandruff shampoo to your hair when you are not suffering from dandruff is also a good preventative measure.

The strong winds of the season are a danger that no type of hair care can resolve without the aid of hair conditioners that help to moisture the dryness of your hair. Some women prefer to wear hats, scarves or even wigs to “protect” their hair. That practice is not accurate, since hair can snag and break. Besides, long wig hairstyles are anti-natural.

Unless your hair is severely damaged, avoid wigs and do not use hats without protecting your hair with a silk scarf. No matter how cold the winter weather, keep your hair care routine, and use a dandruff shampoo to control dandruff or prevent it.

End to fixed mobile terms; ORCON

0 Comments | Press, The; Christchurch, New Zealand, Jul 20, 2010 | by Claire MCENTEE

Internet provider Orcon launched a mobile service yesterday, and promises to shake up the market by scrapping fixed-term contracts.

The state-owned company, which is reselling Vodafone’s network, hopes to sign up tens of thousands of mobile users in the next year.

Orcon customers will not have to commit to a plan for a fixed term, such as 12 or 24 months, and can switch plans or providers without incurring penalty fees.

Customers on Orcon’s basic “purple” plan will pay 69 cents per minute for calls, but no set monthly fee. Other plans offer 60 minutes for $29.95 a month, 120 minutes for $49.95, and 180 minutes for $69.95 a month.

Texts cost 20 cents but customers can opt to pay $11.95 a month for 500 texts to any network, or $9.95 a month for 2000 texts to customers of Orcon, Vodafone and other operators reselling Vodafone’s network, with the exception of 2degrees, which uses its own network as well as Vodafone’s.

Chief executive Scott Bartlett said consumers locked into fixed- term contracts incurred huge penalty fees if they wanted to switch providers or plans before their contracts expired.

“We want to have customers, not prisoners. If you want to be locked down for two years, go steal a car.”

Ernie Newman, chief executive of Telecommunications Users Association, said Orcon’s axing of fixed-term contracts was an “innovative” move

Its acidity is quite high and

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Its acidity is quite high and is very fruity and floral in taste. This wine ages well.

Semillon

This type of wine comes from white grapes that contains acidity that is quite low and has a roundness that is peachy. This wine partners well with Sauvignon Blanc. This is an inexpensive wine.

White Zinfandel

This wine is light blush pink in color and is usually made in the United States, specifically in California. The grapes called Zinfandel are red in color and is separated quickly from the skins when they are crushed and fermented. This results in a wine that is light pink in color. Zinfandel white grapes are made in a style that is sweet in order to balance it with the grape’s acidity.

All in all, wines will always be available for those who value its exquisite taste, flavor, aroma and the process it goes through just to make it exquisite for the palate.

Draw thread down thru your tension

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Draw thread down thru your tension guide. (It is extremely important to have your presser foot UP when threading your machine.)

4. Draw thread thru the next thread guide.

5. Insert thread thru the take up lever.

6. Bring thread thru next thread guide.

7. Finally! – thread your needle. Most needles are threaded from front to back, some from left to right.

Practise threading your machine. It is no small chore if you are a beginner, but after a while you will be able to do this with your eyes closed.

WINDING YOUR BOBBIN – THE NEXT STEP

Follow the instructions from your manual carefully when winding your bobbin.

If your bobbin case is built in, the bobbin will be wound in place with the machine fully threaded.

Removable bobbins are wound on the top or side of the machine. Your machine must be threaded before bobbin filling.

Your bobbin thread must be drawn thru the tension spring.

It?s high in chlorophyll

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

It?s high in chlorophyll (sometimes described as ?plant blood? because it closely resembles human red blood cell molecules) and has over 100 elements that the body needs. Fresh grains are another excellent source for vitamins and minerals.

Energy In ? Energy Out

Exercise is another dirty word for most of us. The thing is, exercise doesn?t have to be horribly time consuming or mind-numbingly boring. There are plenty of options.

Years ago gyms usually offered weight rooms, aerobics classes and maybe a tydro-circuit. Now you can add water aerobics, yoga, pilates, dance-ercise, step classes and a whole range of new workout options.

If you don?t really have the time or money for the gym, or prefer to spend your mornings/nights at home, then try an exercise bike or walker. I?d be lost without my exercise bike ? I set it up in front of the television and peddle away merrily during my favourite shows.

If, like me, you suffer from illness or injury or your level of fitness is quite low, you might like to consider some invaluable advice that I got from my doctor:

Once you?re physically unfit, and particularly if you?re also unwell, it can be a mammoth battle to just do the most minimal amount of exercise in a day.
